Rock Church – Temppeliaukio Church

Visit the architectural highlight of Helsinki. Temppeliaukio Church is unique in design, as it is built in Finnish bed rock. It is one of the most popular spots in the city for visitors so if you can, go during the last opening hours of the day, especially during summertime. It is special to visit this church indoors and worth the admission fee.

There is an admission fee to visit Rock Church. In 2026 the admission fee is 8 €/person and it can be paid by credit card or cash (in euros).
Please notice that Rock Church is located on top of a small hill.
Note: The church can become very busy during the summer. To have the best experience of the church, a visit in the late afternoon hours is often much more peaceful than in the morning, at noon or in early afternoon.
Last admission in the building is 10 minutes before closing time. Please note there can be weddings and other events also in the middle of the day and therefore the church can be closed for some time also in the middle of the day, especially on weekends. Check the latest information of opening hours at temppeliaukionkirkko.fi to get the most accurate information.

I am really not a church person. I have seen way too many ‘regular’ churches. But for the first 100 times or so when visiting this church (and I have done that a lot, especially when hosting Day With A Local guests in Helsinki from 2015 onwards) I actually got a very special feeling when going inside. I like the view from the balcony on 2nd floor a lot, and the narrow space of left side from the entrance on the main floor. The church opens nicely from there, at the level of the organ.
